Camping and Hiking Trips

There is a monthly camping or hiking trip, rain or shine. Activities are tailored to the skill level of the individual scout. For example, the entire troop will go to the Appalachian Trail, but the new scouts will take a less aggressive trail to the same destination as the older group. Responsibilities for cooking, setting up camp, and other activities are designated in order to fulfill rank advancement requirements for each scout.

Board of Review

A Board of Review is the final step of rank advancement and is the recorded date of achievement. Board of Reviews are conducted three times per year, and follow the Scoutmaster's Conference.

Philmont Scout Ranch is a national camping area, owned and operated by the Boy Scouts of America. Philmont is large, comprising 137,493 acres or about 215 square miles of rugged mountain wilderness in the Sangre de Cristo (Blood of Christ) range of the Rockies. 32 staffed camps and 50 unstaffed camps are operated by the ranch. Philmont has high mountains which dominate rough terrain with an elevation ranging from 6,500 to 12,441 feet.

Supertroop 197 has a Crew Reservation for July 2008. We will be at the Double H High Adventure Base in July. To learn more about the Philmont, follow this link.
